ABG celebrates 65 years in the industry

We spoke to ABG’s Sales Director Matt Burton about the company reaching this fantastic milestone, and his thoughts on how the printing industry has changed over the years.

Happy birthday ABG! Tell us about this fantastic company milestone...
It’s AB Graphics’ 65th anniversary - a huge milestone for us and one that we are extremely proud of. In over six decades, the company has gone from strength to strength. Our machines are used across the world and we have amassed a network of delighted customers who rely on our technology to help their businesses succeed.
 

How has the industry changed in that time and how has ABG responded to that?
In reality the industry has changed beyond recognition; as print technology has evolved, ABG has adapted to those shifts to supply market leading finishing solutions to the print industry.

We’ve also noticed that more converters are interested in shrink sleeve and flexible packaging applications, demonstrated by our recent acquisition, Enprom Solutions, who are also exhibiting (Hall 11).

And as we look to the future, we believe we will continue to see more workflow automation, increased productivity and greater efficiency through digital print technology.

As a business we are continually looking for solutions to meet the changing demands of our customers. Our technology is well proven and we are committed to building long lasting relationships with our customers by continuing to deliver both product and service excellence.

What are you showcasing at Labelexpo Europe 2019?
This will be our largest ever showcase, featuring 22 machines - from the new JetFX digital embellishment module, a Digicon Lite, the new Digilase 4.0, our updated Booklet Machine and many more. We will also be running a high-spec Digicon machine specially designed for top-end beverage applications and embellishments. Featuring two flatbed screen heads and both 50-ton Big Foot and 25-ton foiling heads, as well as a new look Vectra SGTR turret rewinder.

We will also be demonstrating our market leading workflow solutions with JDF/JMF connectivity to customers’ MIS systems, and also on stand you will be able to see new options for our SRI range.

In addition we will be exhibiting our FleyeVision camera technology on multiple machines, including our camera workflow in combination with a non-stop turret rewinder and offline table top rewinder - a solution that allows continuous production with a 100% camera inspection. ABG being the only supplier in the market with this technology.

Have you exhibited at Labelexpo Europe before?
Yes, absolutely - we’ve attended every show! It’s great to see how Labelexpo Europe keeps growing and has very much become the ‘must-attend’ event.

How do you think the show has changed since you’ve been involved, and what have been the highlights? What role has it played in the label and package printing industry?
Clearly the show has got bigger and better over the years, but there are evidently more digital presses and suppliers attending each show. For us, the fact that the show brings together a large number of industry leaders is really important, allowing us to showcase our equipment and continue to build profitable business relationships.

What key trends are likely to have an impact on the region in 2019, and how do you think the industry will change in the next few years?
We feel that there will be three main trends to look out for in the next few years:

*** The emphasis on sustainability will continue unabated as we look for innovative ways to minimize waste;

*** The continued growth of digital print technology, allowing converters to diversify into new markets such digital packaging and shrink sleeve; and

*** Automation and integration with MIS systems.

What message do you have for visitors to the 40th anniversary edition of Labelexpo Europe 2019?
This is set to be a great show and we are really looking forward to catching up with familiar faces and making new contacts. So, first and foremost, I’d say get yourselves over to the AB Graphic stand and say hello….did I mention that we have a bar?!

I firmly believe that Labelexpo is the best place to learn about new trends and how they can help you become more efficient and more profitable.
